More about the Exhibition

"RESTLESS" Explores Contemporary Photography and New Media Today

In this age of frantic visual and sensory over-saturation, what is it that catches our eye?

MoCA Shanghai's two young female curators Ella Liao and Wenny Teo hope to examine and showcase with the exhibited artists, a new vision of contemporary, metropolitan experience. "Restless: Photography and New Media" comprises nearly thirty intriguing artists born in the 70's and 80's, who through experimentation and innovation, express the ambivalent emotions of contemporary life and the complex layers of metropolitan existence in a variety of challenging ways.

The special exhibition "Restless: Photography and New Media" records the franticity of modern-day encounters and day-to-day voyages through the landscape of the city, from the banal to the extraordinary. We hope that the viewers free themselves from passive appreciation and respond intensely instead, to physically embrace the museum space in its stimulation of the senses, in indulgence, in intensity and nostalgia, and in this way explore and understand the artworks from multiple perspectives, and thus re-discovering the value of our own aesthetic instincts.

MoCA Shanghai is a museum with innovation at its core. We hope to become an active museum at the forefront of artistic achievement to reflect the new creative vibrancy of China in the 21st century. In this exhibit, we boldly support and display the efforts of young curators and young artists in forging a new vision of today's society.

Artists include: Xu Zhen, Xiang Liqing, Alexander Brandt, Zhu Hao, Qiu Anxiong, Song Tao, Xu Cheng, Miao Jiaxin, Ji Weiyu, B6, Zheng Zhiyuan, Jin Hua, Gu Chen, Vincent Sung, Zhang Ding, Jin Feng, Huang Kui, Chen Wei, Jin Shan, Liang Yue, Peng & Chen, Alfred Zhu, Monica Bertini, Liu Yiqing, Sharon Paz, Juliane Stiegele and more to be announced
